ABIDE WITH ME - THE FIRST REVIEW . . .

A few weeks ago, I held a draw on my Facebook page to win a copy of ABIDE WITH ME.  The winner was a Mr Trevor Drane - diehard Hammer and owner of a film distribution company called Revelation Films.

And here's what he's had to say about ABIDE WITH ME . . .

I am not a natural reader of novels, I like information, news, features,  whatever. Added to which I have the attention span of a three year old sunny d addict. So to get me to read anything at all in a sitting or two I have to be in the mood.

I absolutely loved Abide With Me and in places was very moved, to both laughter, and tears.

I don’t know how much of the main character - John Sissons - is in the author and how much he has created, but I am from a similar background and have had similar life experiences which may have made it easier to connect with the character, and how his life pans out.  I think the book is written well enough for anyone to get out of it what I did, maybe not in such a personal way, but John is easy to like/empathise with so I don’t think this is a novel for 35-60 year old males alone.

I loved the use of language, its use adding to the enjoyment of the book for me, even though I talk the talk, as it were. I liked the pace, the characters, the plots, and sub plots as well as the story arch.

So all in all it would be a five star revue if I were a Sunday Times literary critic.

I would be very surprised if Abide With Me gets anything but good reviews, following which anything is possible.

At the very least I will be an apostle for Abide with Me, so that’s one down, millions to go.

I want to thank Trevor for taking the time to read the book, and for his most kind words.  Cheers, mate.

And if this blog ever reaches seventy-five members, I'll be giving another free signed copy . . .
