With the book out in a few months, I thought I'd set meself up a little focus group.  Three die-hard West Ham supporters looking at the two pivotal chapters in the book relating to the 1980 FA Cup Final against Arsenal.

Now I knew this was potentially throwing myself in the deep end as there's nothing more unforgiving than a die-hard supporter of a football team when you get it wrong.

Here are a selction of the comments:

'Marvelously captured'

'Great stuff! I got really caught up in the narrators description of the game and almost shouted at Willy Young's tackle when it came.'

'Genuinely gave me goose bumps, the sort you only get with sport & even then very, very rarely.'

Have to say, I'm pretty chuffed with that.

  1. Pretty chuffed with that? I should think so, too! But I have to say, the praise doesn't surprise me because your writing is excellent! :)

  2. All I can say is good luck when it's released. As a non-football fan, the version I read was great. I hope you do well with this mate!
